Weekly or fortnightly. |
Number of sessions |
Anywhere from 8 to 12 sessions and upwards. Some people want therapy for a couple of months and others for a couple of years. It is entirely individual. |
For some issues (e.g. smoking) I would recommend just two sessions. Other issues require 3 to 7 sessions. Some clients benefit from ‘top up’ sessions to reinforce their progress and maintain motivation. |
How it works/helps |
The process of counselling may bring up difficult emotions and you may feel worse before you feel better. However, you should feel better in the long run.
In the Person Centred Approach which is my core way of working, you are encouraged to freely express your emotions. This enables you to come to terms with uncomfortable or difficult feelings. The aim is for you to see yourself as good enough, accepting of yourself and your uniqueness and to use your innate abilities to change if you wish. |
Hypnotherapy is not a magic quick fix. Although it might be tempting to sit back and wait for me to ‘fix you’, the more engaged you are, the better the results.
Hypnotherapy uses relaxation techniques to calm the mind and body. You enter a hypnotic state and your subconscious mind becomes open to suggestion. During each session we will spend around 30 minutes discussing the changes you wish to make. I will then invite you to relax and close your eyes. Hypnotherapy is a pleasant experience where you simply listen to my voice. Towards the end of the session you will be brought back to a fully alert state, and after a few moments you will feel refreshed. |
Issues |
Counselling works with issues that affect you in your day to day living. For example a general feeling of unease, vulnerability, confusion, or unhappiness. Also depression, bereavement, anxiety and stress. |
In contrast, hypnotherapy works well with specific issues such as nerves or anxiety in certain situations. It’s also effective for unhelpful habits such as eating issues, phobias and behaviours. Hypnotherapy can also support you with your career, sporting or personal goals or enhance stage performance. |
